Easterseals is looking for a typically-developing peer mentor; preferably a girl, 8-10 years old, to help with social skills training for one of our clients.
Typically-developing peer mentors are used as "buddies" or "tutors" to help children on the autism spectrum. Research suggests that, by nudging adults in secondary roles, peers are able to model social skills in a naturalistic setting. In other words, kids learn better from other kids their own age! In social skills training, we are working on playing, sharing, helping, praising, and encouraging communication development, language, and basic social skills.
