The Tri-County Local Emergency Planning Committee (LEPC), in partnership with the Peoria City/County Health Department and local emergency management officials, is seeking volunteers to assist with Phase II of a regional Commodity Flow Study.
Volunteers will help conduct truck counts at designated locations throughout the Tri-County area to better understand transportation patterns for hazardous materials in our region. The information collected will help strengthen local emergency planning, response strategies, and community safety efforts. Volunteer Responsibilities
Volunteers will:
- Participate in a brief training provided by the LEPC
- Conduct one-hour truck counts at assigned locations
- Work in pairs with another volunteer
- Identify and record placarded and
select non-placarded commercial vehicles as outlined during training

Examples may include:
- Fuel or chemical transport vehicles
- Lubricant/oil trucks Paint or contractor vehicles
- Garbage or septic trucks
- Fertilizer or pesticide haulers
- Hot tar/asphalt trucks

Volunteer Opportunity Details:
- Counts will take place on weekdays between 6:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m.
- Volunteers may participate once or multiple times throughout the year
- Locations and maps will be provided in advance
- No prior experience is required
Why This Matters:
The data collected during this project directly support regional emergency preparedness and hazard planning efforts. Volunteer participation also helps provide the required in-kind match for grant funding, allowing the program to continue while minimizing taxpayer costs. By volunteering, you are helping improve community safety and supporting emergency response planning across the region.
