Neighborhood House provides over 200,000 meals annually to homebound seniors through our Meals on Wheels program. Throughout this journey, we have witnessed the immense comfort and companionship that pets offer. Research indicates that pets can alleviate stress, relieve physical symptoms, enhance self-esteem, and, most importantly, help tackle loneliness and isolation.
However, we found that many seniors were sharing their meals with their pets, resulting in both lacking the proper nutrition they required. This realization led us to create Critters’ Meals on Wheels—a program that now delivers supplemental pet food twice a month to over 100 cherished pets, ensuring that both seniors and their furry friends remain healthy and well-cared for.
We need your assistance in portioning bulk bags of pet food for distribution to our seniors' beloved companions. This opportunity may involve lifting approximately 30-44 lbs.
Our office operates from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM, and volunteers usually help for about 1-2 hours. However, we truly appreciate any amount of time you can offer, whether it’s more or less than that!
Please await a confirmation email from Aleena Wessel to discuss any additional details or schedule a time to come in.
