Volunteer: 2026 Illinois River SweepThe 2026 River Sweep will be on 9/19 from 9am-12pm. We invite groups, individuals, clubs, and businesses to sign up to be a part of this annual river cleanup! Volunteers are asked to pre-register and will be assigned to a nearby site along the river to clean up trash and make an impact in our community.
Please wear sturdy shoes, long pants, and prepare to get dirty. Please bring a water bottle. Staff will provide gloves and garbage bags.The Illinois River Sweep is supported by the American Water Charitable Foundation's 2026 Water and Environment Grant.

Volunteer: Forest Park Nature Center BioBlitzJoin us for a Community BioBlitz!
Volunteers will work alongside experienced naturalists and scientists to help identify and record as many plant and animal species as possible during this 12-hour event. No prior experience with species identification is required—just a willingness to learn and use smartphone apps and field guides. Volunteers are not required to stay for the entire event but should be able to commit to at least a 2-hour shift. Shift times are flexible. For example, if you are available from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., you may participate in two different survey sessions during that time. Data Entry Volunteers Needed: Data entry opportunities are available throughout the event, 11:30am-4:40pm, and can be scheduled around your availability.
