Gimme Shelter - Enthusiastic and Energetic Volunteers Needed

Expired

Description

Gimme Shelter is an event hosted by Phoenix Community Development Services raise awareness of the challenges faced by those in our community without homes and to give our citizens an opportunity to help end homelessness in Central Illinois.   On Friday, March 6, community members will spend the night outside the Peoria Civic Center in a cardboard box - from 6:00 pm in the evening until 6:00 am the following morning.   Gimme Shelter will bring the community together to experience just a taste of what it is like to have no home to spend the night in.

Proceeds from Gimme Shelter will benefit Phoenix Community Development Services’ efforts to provide supportive housing and outreach services to the area’s homeless population.

Outgoing, enthusiastic, energetic and passionate volunteers are needed to collect donations from Civic Center patrons.  Pairs of volunteers will be stationed outside the theater, arena and Civic Center parking lots to distribute information about homelessness and collect donations from Civic Center visitors.  This is a great opportunity to grab a friend and help build awareness of this important issue  - and to make an immediate impact!
