Volunteer: Event Volunteer for Walk To End Alzheimer's 2025

Are you passionate about the fight against Alzheimer’s? Do you want to get more involved with the Alzheimer’s Association and Walk to End Alzheimer’s - Peoria? Join the Peoria Walk on event day and help shape the movement to end this disease.
 
Volunteer opportunities are 2-hour shifts, but multiple shifts can be requested. We provide an official walk day volunteer shirt to those volunteering.  Shifts can be taken in the following areas:  
Registration & Check-in  Set-up  Clean-up  Promise Garden  Tent/Booth Attendants  Water Station  Route Entertainment  Thank You Brigade  Photographer/Videographer

After responding to this volunteer opportunity you will receive an email with information about choosing your shift(s) and preferred area.

Event Day Volunteer Roles and Responsibilities Details:

Setup and Clean Up – Help the Walk staff and Planning Committee setup and tear down the event space and
Walk route. These volunteers will setup tents, tables for the various Walk areas. The areas of the Walk village
include (Registration, Alzheimer’s table, Volunteer/Sponsor Check-In, Champions Club, Fun Zone,
Refreshments, Promise Garden Flower Pickup, and Photo area with Promise Garden)

Stage Lead – This person will help keep the Program moving and make sure all the right speakers and
entertainment are prepared and ready to perform on stage.

Route Setup – Volunteers will set up directional, mission and facts & figures signs along the walk route to
make the route fun and engaging experience.

Registration – While all participants are strongly encouraged to register prior to Walk Day those that might not
have, we can have them fill out a paper registration form or help check in through phone using QR code.
Participants can also make donations and drop them off at Registration. They just need to fill out the walk
donation form with all information and dropped in the security box. Registration will also be the area that
stores any lost items for people to come and pick them up.

Greeters – Greet every participant that enters the walk event. Ask them if they are already registered and then
provide them with the QR code to register through their phone. For those that wish to not use their phone
they can register at the Registration table. Also, be able to answer any walk related questions and be sure to
share details about event schedule and areas to check out (i.e. fun zone, sponsor exhibit space, promise
garden, restroom location)

Volunteer/Sponsor Check-In – Greet every sponsor/volunteer who checks in and show them where their
exhibit space and area they are assign to volunteer. For the volunteers who check-in please provide them with
a t-shirt, their assignment, name tag and any relevant information or materials they will need for their
particular assignment. Sponsors also receive a different shirt and those will be provided with the list.

Champions Club Tent – This is our VIP area for anyone that has raised $500+. Volunteers in our Champions
Club area will be greeting our Champions Club members and/or checking them into this area. We will provide
a list of participants that are members of the Champions Club and can gain access to this exclusive area.

Fun Zone – This family-friendly area has games and activities for all ages to enjoy. The volunteers in this area
will help facilitate the activities and games.

Refreshments Area – Provide water and snacks for all participants.

Promise Garden Pick up – The Promise Garden is the key mission area at the Walk to End Alzheimer’s. Each
color symbolizes each person’s connection to the cause. This is a very powerful moment for many of the Walk
participants, especially if used to hold the yellow flower and now hold the purple flower. Be kind and listen to
their stories, if they wish to share. If they want more than one color, please give them whatever color they
wish to hold.
• Blue – You are living with Alzheimer’s or other dementia
• Yellow – You are caring for or supporting someone who is living with Alzheimer’s or dementia
• Purple – You have lost someone to Alzheimer’s or dementia
• Orange – You do not have a personal connection to the cause but you support a mission of a world
without Alzheimer’s or other dementia.

Photo Area with promise garden planting – This is an area for teams and participants to take their photo with
their friends and family members to commemorate their experience at the Walk. Also, people can plant their
flowers in this area and leave it or come back to pick it up. Please help people take their photos in this area
and encourage them to post on our social media pages and use #Walk2EndAlz #ENDALZ

Route Guides/Parking Assistance – Help direct people to the Walk Village from the Parking Lot if you are a
route guide, help direct people along the route path so that they know the correct way to go. If there is an
emergency along the path, please call the staff partner (listed on the lanyard you will be wearing).

Water Station – Make sure the Water Station is stocked with enough water for people to grab as they walk
past.

Start/Finish Line Support – Cheer our walkers as they leave for the Walk route and then Cheer them on as they
cross the Finish Line.

Work closely with your staff partner to ensure the success of the event.
