Volunteer: 2026 Central Illinois Emergency Expo - Help with a Fun, Family-Friendly Event!

Peoria County is looking for volunteers to assist with the annual Central Illinois Emergency Expo, scheduled for June 17, 2026, at The Shoppes at Grand Prairie. The main event will run from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM.

The Emergency Expo showcases emergency vehicles and personnel from various agencies in Peoria and Tazewell County. Past events have featured fire engines, law enforcement vehicles, bomb robots, search and rescue teams, helicopters, ambulances, utility trucks, water trucks, and much more. Families are encouraged to attend this free event, where children can explore the vehicles, try on equipment, and speak with the professionals who keep our community safe during emergencies and disasters.

We are seeking volunteers for two shifts: 2:00-4:30 pm and 4:30-7:00 pm. We can accommodate earlier departures or different arrival times. The first shift of volunteers will assist with moving coolers, setting up pop-up tents, and placing cones. At 3 PM, you'll also help direct traffic as vehicles begin to arrive. You will receive a map and additional information to address any questions from participating organizations regarding setup. A safety vest will be provided for you to wear. The second shift of volunteers will be stationed in the Peoria County volunteer tent to distribute water to organizations, inform them when the pizza arrives, and answer questions from the public regarding water locations and bathroom facilities. We will provide a safety vest for you to wear. While volunteers must be at least 16 years old, family members of the volunteers are welcome to join and enjoy the event during this time. This event will be held outdoors in the parking lot between Dick's Sporting Goods and Route 91. All volunteers should dress appropriately for the weather. It is recommended that volunteers wear sunscreen, sunglasses, and a hat. The event will proceed in light rain; however, if there is a storm, the event will be canceled.
